about
Twelve Months is the lead single of Tarul's concept album- "Blood so thick it clots in the veins." The project follows the life story of a South-Asian American's self-destruction that ultimately leave him isolated and bitter. The album asks: "What led to the protagonist's demise? Their environment or themselves?"
Twelve Months highlights the protagonist's beginnings and his issues with America in his 20s. Mired in systemic & personal slog, the main character feels both stuck and helpless.
lyrics
Verse 1:
Twelve fucking months
And I’ve got more from a shirt
With the fall of this empire
Funds a new show
I’ve got clothes to the ceiling
And I’m stressed for some work
If you want cash for assets
You’d best have some from birth
Ay
Ay-yay-yay-yay
Ay-yay-ay
Oh, ay-yay
Restless, bad dreaming
And I’m dressed for the worst
I’ve been caught in a landslide
Of falsehoods and dirt
Chorus:
Heaven’s gone insane, and I think I’ve gone insane too
How it’s just the same, and I think I’ve grown a damn fool
Yeah, I walk, but the mud’s now caught my shoe
Yeah, heaven’s gone insane, and I think I’ve gone insane too
How it’s just the same, and I think I’ve grown a damn fool
Yeah, I walk, but the mud’s now caught my shoe.
Verse 2:
Twelve fucking months
And I’ve got less than a shirt
With the fall of this empire
Funds the same show
With the lease up, I’m leaving
I’ve gotta find a new home
The full size of a shoebox
And with holes like there’s gnomes
Ay
Ay-yay-yay-yay
Ay-yay-ay
Oh, ay-yay
Restless, bad dreaming
And I’m dressed for the worst
I’ve been caught in a landslide
Of falsehoods and dirt
Chorus:
Heaven’s gone insane, and I think I’ve gone insane too
How it’s just the same, and I think I’ve grown a damn fool
Yeah, I walk, but the mud’s now caught my shoe
Yeah, heaven’s gone insane, and I think I’ve gone insane too
How it’s just the same, and I think I’ve grown a damn fool
Yeah, I walk, but the mud’s now caught my shoe.
[Solo]
(chants):
Sit down, shut up
Better suck it all up
Get up, get down
Twist your hand around, ‘round
Head down, head down,
Move it til you’re dead, now
